“How are you?”
I’m lost.
I’m scared.
I’m on the edge.
I’m falling.
I’m drowning.
“I’m fine.”

What I Meant When I Said I’m Fine is my first published poetry book and it is available now on Amazon, in paperback and on Kindle.
As the title suggests, these poems are the result of around a decade of battles fought from behind the mask of “I’m Fine”.
In this collection, I rip off the mask and expose the reality of a journey through a life shaped by various mental health diagnoses, trauma, pain, and most recently, an adult autism diagnosis.
This book explores themes such as hidden suffering, grief, isolation, abuse, identity, shame, stigma, neurodivergence, courage, freedom, growth, and hope.
It is my hope that these words reach others who have fallen into the “I’m Fine” trap; to offer solidarity, comfort, and most importantly, encouragement to speak their truth too.

About the author
Hazel Gahagan is an autistic, millennial writer from Derbyshire, England.
A lifelong bookworm, amateur philomath, and theology nerd, she occasionally has thoughts coherent enough to share.
When she’s not writing, she can usually be found exploring weird internet rabbit-holes, volunteering at her local library, making lists, reading, napping, dad-dancing, or spoiling the two loves of her life: her cats, Anna and Elsa.

If you enjoy this book and would like to help it reach a wider audience, please consider giving it a 5-star rating on Amazon and/or Goodreads.
